Welcome to Hole in the Wall - a lounge bar steeped in Amherstburg’s vibrant history.

Our name pays homage to a unique feature of the Detroit River. Just off the coast of Amherstburg, there is passage, a gap, that allowed people to cross the river without running aground. This hidden route became known as the Hole in the Wall.

During Prohibition, rum-runners slipped through this channel to smuggle whiskey, rum, and other spirits into the United States — a time alive with the energy of speakeasies and the rhythm of jazz.

Our intimate, elevated lounge captures that spirit. Enter through our secret door tucked inside a bookshop. Soak in the ambiance shaped by jazz influences, classic cocktails, and a curated art collection that nods to icons like F. Scott Fitzgerald — the novelist who so vividly captured the glamour and wildness of the era.

Even our logo reflects the history: a horizontal split symbolizing the river passage that once carried so many stories.

Step inside for refined food, a thoughtful wine selection, and an experience that blends past and present in perfect harmony.

Cheers!
